Quantum blackbody thermometry

چکیده

Abstract Blackbody radiation sources are calculable that frequently used in radiometry, temperature dissemination, and remote sensing. Despite their ubiquity, blackbody radiometers have a plethora of systematics. We envision new, primary route to measuring using ensembles polarizable quantum systems, such as Rydberg atoms diatomic molecules. Quantum measurements with these exquisite electric field sensors could enable active feedback, improved design, and, ultimately, lower radiometric thermal uncertainties standards. A portable, calibration-free Rydberg-atom physics package also complement variety classical detector thermometers. The successful merger blackbody-based provides fundamental paradigm for physics.

Rydberg spectroscopy in an optical lattice: blackbody thermometry for atomic clocks.

We show that optical spectroscopy of Rydberg states can provide accurate in situ thermometry at room temperature. Transitions from a metastable state to Rydberg states with principal quantum numbers of 25-30 have 200 times larger fractional frequency sensitivities to blackbody radiation than the strontium clock transition. We demonstrate that magic-wavelength lattices exist for both strontium a...

Quantum transport thermometry for electrons in graphene.

We propose a method of measuring the electron temperature T_{e} in mesoscopic conductors and demonstrate experimentally its applicability to micron-size graphene devices in the linear-response regime (T_{e} approximately T, the bath temperature). The method can be especially useful in case of overheating, T_{e}>T. It is based on analysis of the correlation function of mesoscopic conductance flu...

Individual Quantum Probes for Optimal Thermometry.

The unknown temperature of a sample can be estimated with minimal disturbance by putting it in thermal contact with an individual quantum probe. If the interaction time is sufficiently long so that the probe thermalizes, the temperature can be read-out directly from its steady state. Here we prove that the optimal quantum probe, acting as a thermometer with maximal thermal sensitivity, is an ef...

Computational Blackbody Radiation

Maxwell’s equations represent a culmination of classical mathematical physics by offering a compact mathematical formulation of all of electromagnetics including the propagation of light and radiation, as electromagnetic waves. But like in a Greek tragedy, the success of Maxwell’s equations prepared for the collapse of classical mathematical physics and the rise of modern physics based on a con...

Simulating and Optimising Quantum Thermometry Using Single Photons

A classical thermometer typically works by exchanging energy with the system being measured until it comes to equilibrium, at which point the readout is related to the final energy state of the thermometer. A recent paper noted that with a quantum thermometer consisting of a single spin/qubit, temperature discrimination is better achieved at finite times rather than once equilibration is essent...
